Sofia Mobilia (b. 1999) is a German-Italian artist whose interdisciplinary practice unfolds across international boundaries. Her recent work reflects on cultural identity and a sense of belonging, shaped by living and working between Germany, Italy and the United States. Through her lens, the world appears diverse and complex, yet always part of a greater whole.

Analog photography forms the core of her practice, capturing seemingly incidental details that carry emotional significance and become unique portraits of time and atmosphere. Her images evoke nostalgia, while a subtle sense of humour and an attentive eye for the peculiarities of everyday life introduce a playful dimension. Photography becomes a form of remembering and storytelling, translating personal experiences into visual narratives. Within the same body of work, cheeky images, such as a tongue tattoo, can coexist with more critical observations of social rituals and traditions surrounding food.

Layering and transparency are fundamental to her work, connecting the hands-on processes of the darkroom with photography as a temporal experience. She extends these photographic processes into performative and immersive settings, bringing together multiple perspectives and combining analog materials with digital techniques such as projection and light.

Sofia Mobilia received her BFA in Installation from the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart in 2023, where she later completed her Master’s degree in Photography in 2026. She studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia as part of the Erasmus+ programme in 2022 and was a Fulbright scholar at San Diego State University in 2024–25.
